Our Doctor

Sarah A. Shaw, O.D.

Optometrist

Dr. Shaw was born and raised in Lockport, NY. She became interested in optometry and the eyes early in life, during science class in 7th grade at Emmet Belknap. Her childhood optometrist was Dr. Paul DeLange, the original owner of East Avenue Vision Center. Dr. DeLange allowed her to shadow him and continue to learn more about the career of optometry. Dr. Shaw pursued a pre-med, Biology major at SUNY Geneseo, with a minor in Art Studio. She then moved to Chicago to obtain her Doctorate of Optometry at the Illinois College of Optometry. She began practicing in Connecticut and headed back to Western New York in 2015, to work in a medically-based optometry/ophthalmology practice. Dr. Shaw purchased East Avenue Vision Center in March 2019. She is pleased to be serving Lockport and the surrounding communities.

Dr. Shaw has greatly expanded her post-doctorate education since 2021 when she embarked on the journey of training to be a behavioral optometrist. She has spent thousands of hours of continuing education to learn specialized testing, evaluation, diagnosis and treatment of binocular vision dysfunction (BVD). She looks at the patient as a whole to thoroughly assess the health of the eyes and 40 visual skills involved in learning, business and life.

Dr. Shaw lives in Amherst with her husband, Nick, and her Cane Corso, Walter. In her free time, she enjoys spending time with family and friends, traveling, and rooting for the Buffalo Bills and Sabres.
